My Photography Journey

I have been doing this a long ton, 50+ years. I started out with a cheap Yashkia 35mm film camera, migrated to 4x5 and 5x7 view cameras. Prestently I use a Sony A7RV 60 MPX camera and Sony GMII lenses for max resolution and dynamic range. I learned much of my craft by spending over over 10 weeks in workshops with John Sexton, a supurb artist, Adam's mentee. I have been a lifelong student of camera techniques, software, and editing tools. Visiting museums, seeing old masters invigorates my wish to improve.

I mainly prefer landscapes and make extensive use of focus stacking to remove depth of field restrictions, photomerge of multiple overlapping photos to increase resolution, and HDR to increase dynamic range. I feel that a landscape, except for special artistic choice, in general, should be sharp everywhere and have apparent resolution equal to a live scene. I want my landscapes to make you feel you are standing there. I never (hardly ever) add to an image, but frequently remove distracting objects.

I use fine art printing paper and employ my latest model Canon 2600 24in wide printer.

I think that the composition should immediately grab you eye, inviting to to get much closer to absorb the fine high resolution. focused detail. To want you to stand close letting you eye wander about the image, absorbing the interrelation of the parts, then back off and take in again the overall balanced composition, directing your eye back to the attention center. You should feel you are there, a part of the scenery.
